Emily grew up feeling more at home on the stage than anywhere else. She was always participating in anything dance, flag line, theater, singing, etc. As a shy child, performing really helped her open up. Not much has changed as an adult and it’s no wonder she found Lyra. She enjoys working at an ICF with residents who can make your day so much better with a smile. In her free time she dances, plays with her 3 dogs, plays her ukulele and roller skates when the opportunity arises. My teaching style is: Encouraging and enthusiastic! My favorite yoga pose is: I like a good pigeon pose. It’s a needed stretch. Yoga has helped me overcome: Anxiety. It has also helped me slow down and focus on being present in the moment. I love my eyes because: I’ve been told they’re very expressive. Sometimes I have trouble expressing an emotion, but have been told my eyes have my back so to speak. My favorite deity or god/goddess is Artemis because: She is a figure of independence and believing in yourself in books I read as a kid. I also taught archery for Girl Scouts for years. My advice for beginning students is: If at first you don’t succeed try, try again. You’ve got this! I’m most grateful for: Friends, family, my pets and new opportunities that appear when you need them the most. The most exotic place I’ve practiced is: Honestly I’m not that adventurous. At least not as much as I’d like, so I guess on a gymnastics mat in my living room during Covid with 3 dogs trying to climb on me. If I could practice yoga with a nyone it would be: Probably some famous dancers like Martha Graham or Bill Robinson because I’d like to see how they’d approach yoga poses. My heroes are: My mom and my dance teacher growing up. They really instilled confidence in me as a child. My one wish for the world is: Cheesy answer, but world peace. I feel like we really need more peace right now.
