Whitney has been practicing yoga on and off for almost 20 years. She began practicing yoga for the physical benefits but fell in love with the 8 limbs of yoga and decided to deepen her practice by enrolling in teacher training. Whitney is a wife and mother to three beautiful children, two on earth and one in heaven. My teaching style is: I love vinyasa and power yoga with fun and upbeat music. I enjoy teaching yogis of all ages and abilities. My favorite yoga pose is: Half Moon. It builds strength and challenges my balance and focus. Even the Sanskrit name is beautiful, Ardha Chandrasana ... Ardha meaning, half and chandra means glittering, shining, and having a brilliant hue of light. Yoga has helped me overcome: Poor self-esteem and has helped to ease the pain of child loss. I love my arms because: My arms because they were once one of my biggest insecurities. They remind me of my strength and that I can pick others and myself back up. My favorite deity or god/goddess is Kali because: She is the Hindu goddess of death and rebirth. She expresses the nature of the destruction that must come before new beginnings. Kali protects her people against evil by doing what others cannot to protect those she loves. Kali is Mother Nature, nurturing, creating, and devouring all at once, always protecting her children from harm. You must try this healthy snack: Protein balls. There are so many ways to make them! I like, peanut butter, oats, honey, chocolate chips, and chia seeds. My favorite Sanskrit word or phrase is Aparigraha. It is the concept of non-possessiveness, non-greed, and non-attachment. It teaches us not to focus on the outcome of a situation but reminds us to focus on the present movement. My advice for beginning yogis is: Don’t compare your Chapter 1 to someone’s Chapter 20. Yoga is a journey, and everyone’s journey is different. Focus on your body and remember that the yoga community wants you to succeed. I’m most grateful for: My husband, children, and family that comes in all forms. The most exotic place I’ve practiced yoga is: On a dock overlooking the water at sunset with my fellow yoga teacher trainees. If I could practice yoga with anyone it would be: Sarah Beth from SarahBethYoga because she posts videos on YouTube and specializes in trauma informed yoga. I practiced her videos often when I didn’t feel up to leaving my house. I’m ecstatic to take my yoga to the next level because: I love watching others grow and thrive in their own journey! My heroes are: People who have overcome difficulties but still choose to lead with kindness and empathy. My one wish for the world is: Listen more and you’ll realize we have more in common.
